Activities of Beta-glucuronidase and Esterase in Normal Endometriam

Abstract
The endometrium is one of the most dynamic structures in human body. During the past 50 years meticulous detailed description have appeared of the cyclic morphologic- changes: of the human endometrium and their dependency. on steroid. Although there- can be no doubt about the role of estrogen in promoting endometrial¢¥ growth and progesterone in influencing differentiation, little is known of the mechanism by which such changes are accomplished. Endometrial enzymes were- studied histochemically in the histologically normal endometrium from 38 control women.
Beta-glucuronidase activity is greatest during the proliferative phase showing a diffuse distribution in the cytoplasm of glandular and surface epithelium. Moderate localization is noted in endothelial cells of the blood vessels, and scanty activity in the stroma.
Esterase activity shows considerable variation without specific difference throughout the menstrual cycle. Although surface and glandular epithelial cells are diffusely stained, greatest concentration are noted at the luminar border of gland cells. Stroma and blood vessels remain inert.
